History of the society

The Illinois Sleep Society was started by a group of volunteers in 2008. The Society received financial and staff support from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) during the formative years. The first annual ISS Conference was held in May, 2011, with over 200 in attendance. The second annual conference was held in May, 2012, again with nearly 200 in attendance.

The Society continues to expand the activity of its committees, to serve better the Society’s members, our sleep disorder patients, and residents of Illinois at large.

The Society is staffed entirely by volunteers drawn from the membership.
